This class will provide an introduction on some special hazard extinguishing systems used in the fire protection industry. The first portion of this class will provide an overview of the types of systems available, where they are typically used, and the benefits/drawbacks to these types of systems will be discussed.
Additionally, NFPA has published a new standard which governs the design, installation, and maintenance of Hybrid (Water and Inert Gas) Fire Extinguishing Systems. This standard is NFPA 770 2021 edition. The second portion of this class will provide an introduction to the Victaulic Vortex Hybrid Fire Extinguishing System governed by this new standard. Attendees will receive an overview of the operating principles of this system, key components will be identified, installation and testing requirements will be discussed and the instructor will guide the class through a virtual space where this system is installed and in service.

This class will provide an overview of the common types of fire protection signaling devices that a sprinkler fitter will install on the jobsite. The proper installation practices, settings, adjustment, and wiring concepts of tamper, Hi/Low, alarm and flow switch devices will be discussed.
At the conclusion of this class, attendees will be able to determine the proper location of these devices as well as any installation requirements or restrictions associated with them. Attendees will also be able to identify the internal components of the switches and demonstrate the proper setting and adjustment of these switches through a hands-on portion of this class by utilizing a continuity tester. This will include being able to distinguish between the normally open, normally closed, and common contacts on these devices.
