This course provides an in-depth exploration of NFPA 14, 2024. It is designed to introduce attendees to the structure of NFPA 14 and review each chapter of the standard. Class will start by discussing the scope and purpose of NFPA 14. Next, a thorough review the definitions used throughout the standard and insight to how they have evolved over recent editions. Following this, attendees will examine the requirements for water supplies and underground piping for standpipe systems. Continuing, the group will research applicable system components, hardware, and installation criteria for standpipe systems. The course will conclude with a review of design and plan calculation chapters, as well as system acceptance, modifications, maritime systems, and standpipe inspection, testing, and maintenance.

This class will be led by the regional Spears representative who will begin by explaining the proper material handling and storage of CPVC pipe and fittings. Next, will be an in-depth review of the manufacturer’s installation manual with a concentration on the steps required to properly join CPVC pipe and fittings. Following this discussion, the class will explore the different requirements involving hanging and supporting CPVC piping in real-world applications. The lecture will wrap up with a comprehensive overview of the best practices associated with CPVC piping installations. Following the classroom portion, the day will conclude with a hands-on element where once complete a Spears certificate of attendance will be issued.

This class will include an NFPA Standards review in the morning followed by the UA Star Sprinkler Fitter Exam. Successful completion of the exam qualifies you for the Iowa State Sprinkler Fitter Installers License. The Star is a requirement of the Iowa License. Every fitter on the job has to be licensed per the state.
Star Certification and Recertification tests will start at approximately 1pm to 4pm
Full certification exam $150.00 / Recertification exam $100.00
Class 9 and 10 apprentices who take the review class and test will be given credit towards training hours.
This is a hands-on class that allows students to works with Deluge, Dry and Pre-Action valves installed in a trailer. You will learn how each valve operates and learn trouble shooting techniques from our Instructors.
